WIND ENERGY CIVIL INFRASTRUCTURE

Wind farm roads, grading and utility design.

ODE Consultants develops coordinated Civil 3D and InfraWorks information for wind farm access roads, hardstands, drainage, collector circuits, crossings and turbine-delivery requirements.

WIND FARM ENGINEERING CAPABILITY

Civil design shaped by terrain, transport and constructability.

Wind farm infrastructure must bring together turbine access, ground conditions, road geometry, hardstand levels, drainage and underground services within one coordinated site model.

Our role is to convert survey and design inputs into practical information that supports planning, detailed design and construction. The work is developed in close coordination with consultants and engineers, with particular attention to heavy turbine-delivery vehicles, crane access, water crossings, peat conditions and site-specific grading constraints.

Our design approach links terrain modelling, access-road geometry, hardstand grading, drainage and collector circuits so that each discipline develops from one coordinated civil design basis.

WHAT WE DELIVER

Integrated roadway, site-development and utility design.

Our wind farm work combines roadway design, land development and utility coordination to support safe turbine delivery, efficient construction and reliable long-term site operation.

01 / ROADWAY

Access roads and alignments

Detailed road design for construction and long-term maintenance, with horizontal and vertical alignment optimisation.

02 / SITE DEVELOPMENT

Hardstands and site grading

Coordinated level design for turbine locations, crane areas, compounds and associated site infrastructure.

03 / LEVELS

Resolve site grading

Integrated wet- and dry-utility information developed around the road and terrain model.

DESIGN SEQUENCE

From terrain model to coordinated issue.

A structured sequence allows access, levels, drainage and constructability to be tested before the information is issued.

01 / SURFACE

Build the terrain

Create the existing-ground surface and establish a reliable basis for design.

02 / ALIGNMENT

Develop the access route

Optimise horizontal and vertical geometry against terrain and turbine-delivery constraints.

03 / GRADING

Resolve site levels

Coordinate hardstands, turbine areas, compounds, tie-ins and earthworks.

04 / UTILITIES

Integrate drainage

Develop drainage, collector circuits, crossings and associated details.

05 / DOCUMENT

Prepare drawings

Issue plans, profiles, sections, layouts and detailed construction information.

DELIVERED PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Delivered wind farm projects across varied site conditions.

The following projects demonstrate our experience with mountainous and rolling terrain, turbine-delivery access, extensive road networks, utilities, drainage and detailed Civil 3D documentation.

ROADWAY & UTILITY WORKS - IRELAND

Wind Farm – Ireland | Rolling Terrain

Turbines: 12

11km access road

5.0 m road width

1.2 sq km

72 drawings

Plain and rolling terrain · Floating and ground-bearing roads

Project value delivered

Vehicle-tracking simulations were used to resolve a constrained entrance with a sharp 40 m radius curve. The design also addressed deep peat and road-level stability, with the capability document recording a potential construction-cost reduction of 10–15%.

MOUNTAINAINOUS TERRAIN DESIGN - IRELAND

Wind Farm – Ireland | Mountain Site

Turbines: 6

4.9km access road

5.0 m road width

0.92 sq km

61 drawings

Mountainous terrain · Floating and ground-bearing roads

Project value delivered

At one turbine location, the original alignment required cuts of approximately 12–15 m. Alignment optimisation and Autodesk InfraWorks simulations reduced excavation quantities by approximately 28–30%, improving crane access, safety and constructability.

ACCESS ROAD UTILIES - IRELAND

Wind Farm – Ireland | Road & Utility Works

Turbines: 6

4.9km access road

4.5 m road width

24,400 sq m

0 drawings

Plain and rolling terrain · Floating and ground-bearing roads

Project value delivered

The assignment combined roadway and utility design outputs into coordinated site, profile, drainage and site-service drawings for a six-turbine development.

48 KM ACCESS ROAD NETWORK - IRELAND

Wind Farm – Ireland | Large Road Network

Turbines: 21

48km access road

4.5 m road width

23.72 sq km

166 drawings

Plain and rolling terrain · Floating and ground-bearing roads

Project value delivered

The project required extensive access-road, drainage and utility documentation over a large site, including swept-path analysis at critical turbine-delivery locations and detailed peat-depth mapping.
